My story begins..... My wls journey
When this journey began I was 314 lbs. had no energy and was lazy. I do not have any children do to my obesity I am depressed and very shy. I get comments in the stores about my weight and do not like my appearence. Yes I have tried diets before but they just dont work. I have troubled with my weight since my early teenage years.
So how did I get to WLS....
This journey began on May 29, 2005. I say it began on this day because on this day I found out that my sister in law had WLS during mothers day weekend. This is what set my husband in the motion of making me do something real about my weight. He told me that I should look into WLS. WLS scared the crap out of me at first. I thought about what if I die, and what if I do this, can I have children? At first I thought No.... But thats wrong......On June 26 I went to an endrocrinolist about getting a diet pill, something I have never tried. Instead he told me the pills were not going to help long term, he said that if I did loose the weight I would gain it all back plus they dont work for ever! This was news because I have a friend that lost 50 lbs from pills she needs to loose more but the pills are expensive and not covered by health insurance! So this doctor told me I had 2 options ...Optifast which was supervised by the doctor and very expensive and Insurance didnt pay for that either; or get gastric bypass surgery. After a few days of considering it I went on to the sergeons website and called the office, the receptionist told me the first step is going to a new patient meeting, this I did on June 29th! I had already made up my mind this is something I want to do. I want to loose this awful weight and keep it off. I decided to make an appointment for my first consult.... Aug 30th! Good gosh that still seems so far away. During that meeting I decided to change my eating habits now rather then later.... Oh gosh I dont want to have to be told I have to loose weight before my surgery clearence so I better start eating healthy now. This I did start, I have lost a total of 7.5 lbs already! I hope to be 300 lbs by my first consult, and 290 by the surgery date. I have called my insurance and my requirments are not that out of the ordinary, be in a supervised program that treats wls all around with consults pre op and post op from dietitian, nutrionist, sergeon, and a shrink! And have a BMI of over 40. So far so good for me. Now I just have to make sure my PCP supports me. I have the appointment on July 31, There I will have her start the sleep study processes so this will already be in the works before my first appointment. If I can get most of the things done before the appoinment then I should have the surgery before the end of the year!
